Low-Flow Sampling DB
This database has been used for several years on an ongoing basis by Terraine, Inc. to collect and manage groundwater purging and sampling data for hundreds of monitoring wells for the United States Navy and others. Currently, several thousand well sampling event records are stored in the database, which contain pH, conductivity, ORP, dissolved oxygen, and other field parameter data on wells sampled. The database is capable of reading GPS cards, and it also alerts the field person if a well has reached purge stabilization based on physical parameter readings obtained during purging. Some of the main benefits of this system include:
- Notifies field sampling crew when purge parameter criteria indicate stabilization has been met (it does the calculations for you instead of having to do the calcs yourself)
- Other calculations are done automatically, such as flow rates, etc. Validations are also embedded within the forms, thereby reducing potential data entry errors for obviously incorrect readings (e.g., pH greater than 12, dissolved oxygen less than 0, etc). Signature blocks are also mandatory fields, forcing the field person to sign the form before the record will save.
- Has been used to record latitude and longitude of wells which are difficult to find in the field due to overgrown vegetation, etc. Waypoints are then utilized in conjunction with the on-board GPS on the Pocket PC to direct the field crews to the locations of the hard-tofind wells
- Data collected on this system are pulled into a corporate environmental database seamlessly using Web Services/SOAPÖno need to manually export and then import records into a separate database systemÖit is all handled using XML/SOAP routines.
